The area of geology and geophysics covers tectonic, seismic, gravimetry, sedimentological, stratigraphical and paleooceanological studies of the Pacific and its marginal seas (area supervisor: Dr. R.G. Kulinich).
Special attention is paid to gas-geochemistry and offshore ore formation with a view to identify potential deposits of natural resources in the Far East (area supervisors: Dr.Sc. A.I. Obzhirov and Dr.Sc. A.S. Astakhov).
